All Donors 5-Year Score Detail thru CFY

How to use the All Donors 5-Year Score Detail thru CFY analysis

This analysis provides you with a detailed, year-over-year profile of every donor's giving behavior across the current and four previous fiscal years.  It summarizes each donor's giving totals by year, as well as their total giving over five years and their lifetime. Central to this analysis is a four-character Score  assigned to each constituent, which encodes their giving trend for each of the past four years (including the current year). Each character in the score reveals whether the donor is new (N), returned after lapsing (R), lapsed (L), increased their giving (I), maintained (E), or declined (D) compared to the prior year. This enables you to quickly identify patterns such as consistent upgrades, recent re-engagements, or at-risk lapsed donors.

There is a summary version of this analysis, which provides a high-level overview of the number of donors with the same score, useful for high-level planning. This analysis, on the other hand, provides actionable information required to execute on that planning.

In addition to the behavioral score, the analysis provides supporting columns, including current and historical giving amounts, lifetime total, and the first fiscal year in which the donor donated. These data points are not part of the score calculation but are essential for crafting tailored messaging, stewardship plans, and major gift strategies. For example, knowing a donor's cumulative contributions can help you acknowledge lifetime impact in your outreach.

The key metrics—five-year giving totals, year-by-year giving changes, and the behavioral score—allow you to craft and target communication more effectively. You can identify donors with increasing trends for upgrade campaigns, spot recent lapses for targeted reactivation, and recognize steady supporters for ongoing stewardship. This analysis is particularly valuable for prioritizing your moves management and personalizing asks and acknowledgments.

Development officers, advancement services, and fundraising team leads should regularly review this analysis—ideally, monthly or quarterly —as part of their Constituent Intelligence routines. Use it to flag donors for follow-up, plan personalized solicitations, and assess the effectiveness of your retention and upgrade strategies. Success should be measured by improvements in year-over-year retention, increases in average gift size, and higher rates of donor reactivation following targeted outreach inspired by this analysis. By applying these insights, you ensure that your engagement is both data-driven and deeply attuned to each donor's unique journey with your organization.
